PHILADELPHIA (May 16, 2024) – This Spring, the Philadelphia Wings launched their brand-new Sticks for Students program throughout The School District of Philadelphia. The team brought the free assembly program to students across Philadelphia Schools this season, teaching the students the basics of lacrosse and equipping each school with resources for a robust lacrosse curriculum. The inaugural season of the program was made possible by a grant from Wings Charities to The Fund for the School District of Philadelphia, and by Franklin Sports, which generously provided custom-designed equipment.

“We have been excited to partner with the Philadelphia Wings on this new initiative,” said James Patrick Lynch, Executive Director of the Athletic Division for The School District of Philadelphia. “The Philadelphia Wings’ continued support of youth sports development throughout the region has been instrumental in getting our kids back on the field, especially as we continue to introduce our students to new sports. We have already seen exciting response from the students after the first season and look forward to expanding on this program in the future.”

“Fostering youth access to sport is an essential part of what we do at Franklin,” said Eve Stire, Brand Partnerships Manager at Franklin Sports. “We are so proud to partner with the Philadelphia Wings on their new Sticks for Students initiative and support a program that seeks to not only grow the game of lacrosse, but also provides important opportunities for students to move, play, and compete!”

During the assembly, students had the opportunity to learn more about the game of lacrosse through an interactive, board-game style assembly featuring Wings players and Wings Mascot, Wingston. In addition to the assembly, each school received equipment and other resources to develop their own robust lacrosse curriculum, including instructional videos and lacrosse equipment donated by Franklin Sports for student use. The donated equipment includes sticks, pinnies, goals, and lacrosse balls.
