730 students in 12 culinary arts programs across the School District of Philadelphia were able to resume hands-on culinary education thanks to the generous donation of $50,000 in crucial culinary supplies by FCM Hospitality and eight of the company’s restaurants, including Liberty Point, Morgan’s Pier, and Rosy’s Taco Bar. FCM’s owner, Avram Hornik, made the donation to address issues caused by national supply-chain problems and labor shortages. “ I believe all businesses should be considering a way to support students in our public schools.” said Hornik.

Since 2019, The Tobias Harris Charitable Fund (TBHF) has donated $350,000 to support summer literacy programs for District students; efforts to recruit and retain teachers of color; and other educational initiatives. Over the holidays, TBHF partnered with Giant, Eat Right Philly, and The Fund to donate 375 turkeys and meal bags to district families in need. In addition, the Philadelphia 76ers forward and his family personally gifted five families at the Bethune School all of the items on their holiday wish lists.
After donating 3,000 appreciation kits to District essential employees in 2021, Wawa renewed its commitment to The Fund with the donation 80,000 COVID-19 tests to help keep students and teachers safely in the classroom. To mark a year of partnership, Wawa also gifted 250 lunches to all District bus drivers and garage operators on national Employee Appreciation Day. Spokesperson Becky Altemus said, “We are delighted to support The Fund and District with food, resources, gift cards, and our appreciation for everything they’ve done to keep students safely in schools these past challenging years.”

After donating $80,000 in school supplies to five schools throughout the District, Quinta Brunson, Philadelphia native and creator and star of ABC’s hit show Abbott Elementary visited Comegys Elementary in Southwest Philadelphia to surprise third grade teacher Xiomarra Robinson alongside the students who love her. During Quinta’s visit Wells Fargo also donated $40,000 to the school.
